In addition to the trading business with natural fibers, Stucken Melchers has also been involved in the distribution of hand knitting yarns for some time. These yarns are produced exclusively at MSSA (Mohair Spinners South Africa), the company group’s spinning mill, located in South Africa.

To provide an efficient and reliable service of these hand knitting yarns (marketed under STUCKEN YARNS) into the German and European market, a stock service has been setup in Bremen. This ensures guaranteed short delivery times to our customers and no customs clearance costs need to be paid.

The stock service is operated by Stucken Melchers as well as the marketing of these yarns.

Our standard range comprises exclusively of undyed yarns in hanks. Most of these yarns consist of 100% Merino wool (superwash treated), however we do offer yarns that are blended with other natural fibers such as Linen, Mohair and Silk. We are constantly striving to expand our range in a meaningful way.

Most of our clientele are indie dyers, but our yarns can be used for various other applications.

As part of our corporate philosophy, STUCKEN YARNS source local South African Merino wool. This means that our yarns are completely mulesing free.

Our mill, which includes processing and spinning facilities, is in the heart of the Eastern Cape region and thus directly located in the world’s largest and most important Mohair production area. This also ensures that there is maximum transparency with regards to the sustainability of the mohair fiber. A sizable proportion of South African Merino wool also comes from this region.

Silk, which is used in our hand knitting yarns, is purchased by Stucken Melchers directly in China and passed on to our sister company in South Africa.

Customers who order hand knitting yarns from STUCKEN MELCHERS / STUCKEN YARNS, are in principle buying directly from the manufacturer.
